How we win back Hallam

Winning Sheffield Hallam won’t be easy. Labour hold the seat today, but the real danger comes from Reform UK. They might not win here outright, but their toxic politics already drags the debate into fear and division. Meanwhile, Labour are chasing Reform’s vote by moving to the right. Hallam deserves better.

I believe the way we win is simple: we put our values first, and we show that there is an alternative.

I’ve seen first-hand around the world what happens when hate goes unchecked. That’s why I’ve spent my political life standing up for fairness, dignity, and freedom. Here in Hallam, I know people want a positive, principled voice – and that’s what I will offer.

The issues we must fight on

Health & Social Care – I’ve worked on the frontline for years. I know the system is broken, and I know how to fix it. I’ll keep pushing for dignity, independence, and proper support for every family.

Climate & Environment – Hallam voters care deeply about climate change, and they want urgent action. I’ll lead on clean energy, protecting our green spaces, and making Sheffield a city of the future.

Liberal Values – I’ll always stand up for fairness, respect, and internationalism. Where Labour bend to Reform’s politics of fear, we will stand tall and defend our liberal, outward-looking traditions.

We just can’t win the next election by chasing numbers. If we want people’s trust, we have to show them what we believe in and prove we’ll stand by it.

A strategy for victory

But winning isn’t just about what issues we raise – it’s about how we campaign.

  • We need to get back to having fun. Campaigning should inspire people, not wear them down.
  • We need to restructure our campaigns. Instead of asking “what leaflet comes next,” we should ask “what are people actually concerned about, and how do we best reach them?”
  • We need to stop being transactional with voters. This campaign can’t just be “vote for us, because we are not them!”. Let’s build lasting trust by listening and speaking up on the big issues that matter to people.
  • Let’s have community meetings. Let’s bring people together to talk about housing, social care, the climate – and build a movement, not just a campaign.
  • Let’s try new things and experiment. Hallam has always been a place where the Lib Dems could innovate. Let’s not be afraid to take risks.
  • And above all, let’s take a stand. People want politicians who speak up for what they believe in. Yes, we’ll upset some people – but we’ll also inspire many more. And with 70% of people disliking Reform UK, if we take them on boldly, we’ll earn the trust of voters who are looking for a principled alternative.

What I Bring to the Table

I know Hallam can be won but only with the right candidate. Someone who truly knows our community, is clear about their values, and is able to lead a strong, principled campaign. That’s what I offer.

It will take proven experience, credibility, and desire to make peoples’ lives better. Here’s what I bring:

Trusted on Health & Social Care

I’ve spent my career on the frontline, leading services for adults and children with learning disabilities. As Council Spokesperson for Health & Social Care and now as an NHS Governor, I bring the credibility our party needs on its number one national issue.

Proven Campaigner

I’ve helped deliver council election victories in tough wards, exposed Labour’s failures on housing repairs and ADHD waiting times, and played a leading role in by-elections where we beat both Labour and Reform.

Values-led Leadership

I’ve seen the dangers of nationalism and hate. I’ll always stand up for fairness, dignity, and internationalism – and I’ll never compromise on our liberal values.

Hallam Born and Bred

I grew up in Crosspool, Fulwood and Ecclesall. My family ran well-known local businesses, and I went to our local schools. I know this community because it’s my home.

Fundraising Expertise

With professional experience in fundraising and bid writing, I know how to bring in resources, build relationships with donors, and keep our campaign funded and fighting.

Team Builder

I don’t just campaign myself – I bring others with me. I’ve trained new canvassers, led campaign sessions, and supported volunteers to feel confident and valued. Winning Hallam will take a whole team effort, and I know how to build and motivate that team.

More Than a Seat

For me, this campaign isn’t just about winning a seat in Parliament – it’s personal.

I grew up here in Hallam. I’ve seen how politics can lift people up, but I’ve also seen what happens when hate and division go unchallenged. Those experiences are why I joined the Liberal Democrats, and why I’ve spent my life standing up for fairness, dignity, and internationalism.

That’s what drives me now. Standing up to Reform UK and the politics of fear isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s how we win. When we show people that we mean what we say, when we live our values instead of chasing headlines, voters see that we are different.

And this is about more than Hallam. Across the country, people are looking for a movement that speaks to their hopes, not their fears. If we build that movement here – if we show what principled, values-led campaigning looks like – we can inspire others across Sheffield and across Britain.
